Hours before the interview aired, the president went on the offensive, accusing Mr Comey of "many lies".
In his book, Comey takes direct aim at Trump's appearance, a particularly sensitive topic for the president, although a tactic he often employs himself when insulting others.
The jumble of references appeared to allude to unsubstantiated accusations Mr Trump has previously made claiming Comey lied in Senate testimony last May in denying he had served as an anonymous news source. He labelled Comey "disgruntled" and accused him and allies of having "committed many crimes".
Comey says Trump's actions "tainted an institution that pursues the truth".
The Post-ABC poll finds 49 percent saying Trump has done "too little" to criticize Russia for allegedly violating international law, 38 percent saying he's handled the issue "about right" and 4 percent thinking that Trump has criticized Russia "too much".
