Microsoft opens the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update floodgates

The software giant started rolling out the Fall Creators Update on October 17 last year and it is the fastest Windows 10 release to reach 100 million devices.

New reading experience for EPUB, PDF, and Reading View: We've overhauled the look and feel of the reading and Books experiences in Microsoft Edge, bringing a new, consistent, more powerful experience across all your documents, whether they're EPUB or PDF books, documents, or web pages in Reading View. Once it's satisfied that any of these wrinkles have been ironed out, Microsoft offers the update to every machine that's compatible.

Microsoft has encouraged corporate customers to use this wide deployment as the signal that the update is ready for enterprise rollouts.

All compatible devices running Windows 10 should get the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update offered to them through Windows Update as of yesterday.

Autofill passwords when InPrivate: With the latest Insider build, Microsoft Edge now supports auto-filling of saved passwords when browsing InPrivate. Today the company has introduced a long list of new features especially for its default web browser Microsoft Edge along with improvements to Settings, Camera App, Quiet Hours and more. Also, the CVV security number on the rear of the card is never saved.

Oddly, Microsoft's Mixed Reality house has no windows. While announcing the update, Terry Myerson, Microsoft's Executive Vice President for Windows and Devices, had said that the free update will also include a new photo app and many tweaks to the overall design and usability of Windows 10. All cards linked to your Microsoft Account are also made available for automatically filling card information. A new Book icon and title is shown while reading a book instead of the earlier URI for a clear view. This is something I find an odd omission in Windows 10 right now: It's surprisingly hard to just find these folders quickly.

To enable automatic updates, go to Windows Update Advanced options Choose how updates are installed to make sure they are turned on for you.

Now, in addition to refreshing your library or pinning books to your Start menu, you can see recommendations for new books (when your library is empty) or filter expired rentals from the current library view. If you've already scheduled an installation date and time, the update will install automatically at your specified time. For instance, Edge will now automatically fill your card information on payment web forms. On supported books, you can now hear the book read aloud with custom narration, with the publisher's chosen style applied to the highlight as the book is read. It's now possible to enjoy ebooks or Reading View pages in full-screen, too. You may still choose to always show the favorites bar if you wish, via a context menu on the favorites bar "Show bar", or via settings "Show the favorites bar".

Microsoft Edge now supports CSS extensions for OpenType Font Variations, which allows single "variable" font files to behave like multiple fonts, with a range of weight, width, or other attributes.
