Qualcomm Inc on Wednesday revealed new security and battery life features on its latest Snapdragon 845 mobile phone processor, a chip that customarily powers high-end Android-based phones from Samsung Electronics Co Ltd and others.
As for the AI stuff (Hexagon 685 DSP), look, it's a 2017 press release and product unveiling, so we've got mentions of 3x improvement in AI performance, more natural voice interactions, (hopefully) faster always-on voice detection, and that sort of thing. Since use of biometrics is increasingly becoming popular, this feature has been added to enhance security.
Qualcomm has unveiled its next generation flagship mobile technology - the Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform. It's however also rumored that the chipset will possibly even work its way into certain Windows 10 laptop and PC devices due to its high power. What the inclusion of these two and the ISP in particular means is that the chipset is built to give phones the capacity to record "Ultra HD Premium" HDR wide color video in their cameras at full 4K resolution and 60 frames per second. VR fans will also be able to perform gestures without a controller thanks to the included support for hand tracking.
In the connectivity realm, the Snapdragon 845 will pair up with Qualcomm's new X20 LTE modem, which is a Gigabit LTE solution. "If you have enough scale that you can afford the R&D in the scale of a semiconductor business you do it. Nokia did it, everybody did it, we always had that". The Snapdragon 845 seemingly focus on battery life, virtual reality, and video recording. Microsoft bills the systems as Always Connected PCs.
Microsoft and Qualcomm are marketing the new ARM-based laptops as "always-on" PCs, meaning these computers are always connected to LTE data connections.

And there are signs that the most stubborn unemployed are trying to return to work.
And the share of the main working population that is employed - those 25 to 54 -grew to 78.8%, from 78.2%.
In short, Microsoft and its partners believe the category can be a perfect marriage of the smartphone and desktop experience. Flat wages have been set against the meteoric rise of a new class of billionaire plutocrats to create a picture of massive and chronic income inequality and unfairness, and that impression appeared to help elect Trump. 4G LTE not available in all regions.
