Homes along Rye Canyon Loop, the Westridge housing community, and the Valencia Travel Village RV park were ordered to evacuate.

At 12:30 p.m. the city of Santa Clarita announced additional school closures for the valley as a result of the fast moving Rye Fire. DEVELOPING: More details will be added to this report as they become available.

The Rye Fire started about 9:55 a.m.in the 25100 block of Rye Canyon Road, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

On December 5, 2017, the State of California submitted a request for a Fire Management Assistance Declaration for the Creek Fire. Ventura is scheduled to play in the tournament on Friday and Saturday but the status of those games have yet to be determined.

In the Castaic Union School District, teachers and administrators kept students inside throughout the day to protect them from the smoke in the air due to the fires in the area. But it was lifted about 6 p.m. Tuesday. Mandatory evacuations were issued for approximately 1,000 people, with the potential for further evacuations.

Chaminade's girls soccer match with Santa Barbara was also cancelled while Notre Dame, Burbank, Santa Clarita Christian and Moorpark were among schools that cancelled all outdoor sporting events.

As of now, there are no plans to reschedule the 1AA regional final between Oaks Christian hosting San Diego Helix on Friday or Grace Brethen hosting Aquinas Saturday at Moorpark College in the 2A regional final.

Newhall Ranch Road westbound is also closed at McBean Parkway. About 775 firefighters are on scene.
