Pochettino forgives Rose for Spurs' 'Google' jibe

Mauricio Pochettino did not see the amusing side of Danny Rose's suggestion that he has had to "Google" some of Tottenham's signings, and the manager claimed he has no say in what the left-back and his teammates are paid.

'Tottenham have been fantastic for Danny Rose.

"I am not saying buy 10 players, I'd love to see two or three - and not players you have to Google and say, 'Who's that?' I mean well-known players", Rose added.

"Everybody was praising the talent of this squad, the understanding between players, young players". Established internationals like Roberto Soldado, Paulinho and Moussa Sissoko have tended to flop at Spurs.

His apology came hot on the heels of a number of reports claiming that Rose's departure could provide a mass exodus of Tottenham's best players, who would all stand to earn considerably more away from north London.

"That is not a joke".

"And when you sign a player like Eric Dyer, who is an global today when no one knew him before".

"Also, when I first arrived here, people wanted to know who Mauricio Pochettino too". If you remember five years ago, people said 'who is Pochettino?' I'm sure they used Chrome or Google or Yahoo to find out! Straight away it went to the penalty I gave away against Michael Owen (while playing against England for Argentina at the 2002 World Cup). "But it's ok - look now!"

Outspoken pundit and former midfielder Robbie Savage has predicted Tottenham to start their Premier League season with a defeat against Newcastle on Sunday afternoon.

Danny Rose wants to force a move, or a significant wage increase at Spurs, and he is going about it in the most effective manner. No, no, no. I'm exhausted.

"You need to understand that he [Rose] gave his opinion", he continued.

"Sometimes as a player you are frustrated for different reasons".

And while he accepts players want to move, he says Rose has shown a lack of respect towards his employers.

"As a Tottenham player I'd love to see more signings. When you see the team so relaxed, calm and focused for the game on Sunday, I feel how can I be nervous?" "I have no doubt about the team".

Mauricio Pochettino said he has forgiven the England full-back. I leave that to the chairman.
